April-May 2024

me in the map

Our final project for second year was to practice the discipline of reportage illustration of a place, and how we relate to that place. I chose Bloomsbury, initially due to its literary background for publishing and being the home for famous writers like Virginia Woolf and E.M Forster. However, my research (which involved speaking with owners of local businesses, local people and historians), I unearthed the district’s queer history, which further inspired me.

This month long project culminated in a public show at Peckham Levels, which I helped to curate. Below are my illustrated field notes and observational drawings which I presented at the final exhibition.

Below is my A6 sketchbook that I used to practice taking field notes, mapping out my journey and activities, with the aim of practicing composition to transfer to my comics.
